Safety

Housing Services is committed to maintaining high standards for health, safety, and security in Glen Mor. Individuals who jeopardize the health, safety, and security of others by not following health and safety procedures will be subject to disciplinary action from not only Housing Services, but also the University and civil authorities. All residents and their guests must adhere to the following health and safety regulations. Volunteers can sign up at Resident Services Office’s (RSO’s) if they would like to assist during an emergency situation.

COUNSELING CENTER
Services are available through the Counseling Center, 951.827.5531. This center is also located in the Veitch Student Service Building. It is open from 8:00 a.m. to Noon and 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday, as well as Fridays, 8:00 a.m. to Noon and 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Again, if the Center is closed and you are in need of immediate assistance, contact the RA on duty or dial 9-1-1.

UC RIVERSIDE POLICE DEPARTMENT
The UC Riverside Police and their student aides, Community Services Officers (CSOs), provide protection for Glen Mor. They are here to assist in keeping your living environment safe and secure. Your alertness and assistance in reporting suspicious activities or individuals help in providing this type of environment.

The UCR Police Department has a direct line to a 24-hour emergency service, which responds to all emergencies, including medical emergencies. For a police or medical emergency, call 9-1-1. For all non-emergencies, call 951.827.5222.

ESCORT SERVICE
UC Riverside has a volunteer escort service, which we encourage you to use when you walk on campus at night. It is administered by the Women’s Resource Center. If you want to be escorted to any location on campus during the evening hours, call 951.827.3772. Hours are sundown until midnight, Sunday through Thursday. As volunteer escorts are always needed, you might consider volunteering to help if you can afford the time.

INJURIES AND ILLNESS
Student Health Services, 951.827.3031 is located in the Veitch Student Service Building. These services are available from 8:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and from 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. If you become ill or sustain an injury when the Health Service is closed and do not feel you can wait until the next day to see a doctor, please contact the RA on duty. He or she will assist you in obtaining the medical attention you need. If immediate assistance is required, dial 9-1-1.

MEDICAL INFORMATION
If you are taking prescribed medication or under medical directions which may be necessary to know in case of an emergency, please let the Resident Services Office know. This information will be kept confidential and will only be used by the staff in the event of an emergency.

RENTERS INSURANCE
Housing feels that the safety and security provided you, as a resident of on-campus housing is superior enough to make it an overwhelming advantage of living in a campus apartment. However, although we make every effort to protect on-campus housing, it would be unrealistic to expect that theft has never and will never in the future occur on Housing properties.

Therefore, we encourage you to carefully consider purchasing renter’s insurance. A renter’s insurance brochure is available at Housing Services or at the Resident Services Office. The brochure contains information about special rates offered to students wishing to insure their personal property against loss or damage. While the provider has no affiliation to the University, they have for many years offered affordable insurance plans specifically designed for students.

We hope you will find this information valuable and will always guard yourself against complacency by making wise and informed decisions with regard to yourself and your personal belongings.
